US Pie
The pie belongs to everyone, including all the large array of immigrant and indigenous people, who can all live off it easily and comfortably, with enough time to spare for their families, friends, and fraternities, and dedicate some time also for reading and writing.
But, that is not the prevailing reality. No, it hasn’t happen that way.
Instead what happened was that one-tenth of one percent, (utterly ruthless and without conscience, devoid of any compassion towards others), call it the elite, jumped ahead of everyone (that is, 1,000 people), grabbed the pie, and declared it as its own property.
With the whole thing at its disposal, the elite was in the seventh heaven. There was a small problem, though; alone it was nothing.
Alone this lazy bum, couldn’t do anything. This necessitated that the elite hire people to run its errands, to do its menial work, to take care of its vast business empire, to handle issues that would pop up due to the corrupt practices of its daylight robbery enterprise. So the elite had to hire security to protect its property and life, reporters to create/report news of little people pilfering and other such trivial issues to keep the public busy from knowing the great plunder being committed by the elite. Then there are hordes of lawyers who fight to save any member of the asshole elite when any one of them gets caught – which is rare – for the crimes he/she commits.
This was planned in such a meticulous way that nobody would notice that the elite, not the people, controlled the government. However, the people were given the impression that the government is theirs.
Most of the people didn’t get any share of the pie and were brutally shot when they, to survive, would try to steal, justly so. They wished they had the force to eliminate their usurper because they were left with no choice.
No hope in sight for most of the people that they’ll get their fair share of the pie.
