Here is travelogue of National Geographic magazine by Frederick Simpich dated Dec 1914, almost 100 years ago. It is a wonderful description of Baghdad (P. 546) and Shi’a Holy city of Nedjef or Najaf (P. 589). He describes Arabs, Turks, and Iranian living and travelling then. It has pictures of Jews living in the area then. It is fascinating to view the pictures and read this very well written description of his experience. It takes us back in time. It describes Holy Shia city of Nedjef (Najaf), how rich kings from India and other counties sent gold and treasure offerings to tomb of Hazrat Ali, and carried dead bodies of rich and influential individuals for burial in Najaf. It is a must spending time reading or just glancing pictures.
