On November 8th, 2009, a photograph of Nicolas Sarkozy (left) chipping away at the Berlin Wall surfaced on his Facebook photo album with the following description:
“We were fascinated with all the news coming in from Berlin, something major was about to happen. We went to the Brandenburger Tor, saw that there were many people already there, so we went through Checkpoint Charlie to the East Side of the wall, where we demolished a part with a pickaxe”.
But on the same day, Alain Auffray, who blogs for the French newspaper Libération, pointed out that Sarkozy’s attendance on that evening was unlikely, since there was no advance warning of the East German announcement before the 6 o’clock news and “West Berliners didn’t begin to attack the wall until the following day, the 10th.”
Eventually, French journalists produced archival footage” from November 1989, showing that Sarkozy actually visited Berlin Wall on Nov. 16th, rather than a week earlier on 9th. PHOTO/Facebook
gone are the days
when governments were honored
for launching social programs
helping the poor:
these afforded presidents/premiers fame
now such actions
are condemned by the corporate lobbyists
and their hirelings in the legislative branches
instead, we have today
NGOs and the thieves
(who have enriched themselves
through laws enacted by their hirelings)
who do some social work
according to their corporate and personal agendas.
the paths to domestic and global fame
have narrowed
and, of course, war is on top of the fame-path.
President Sarkozy craves for publicity
Carla Bruni on his arm, was not enough
so one call from fame-craving philosopher/hawk, BHL
or Bernard-Henry Levy, changed Sarkozy’s fortunes
Levy entered Libya through Egypt,
met the newly formed opposition,
and asked Sarkozy to recognize the group,
and not inform the Germans,
or the French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe.
neither Sarkozy nor Levy* has
the greatness of Alexander the Great or Aristotle
(the ancient conqueror/philosopher team)
but both harbor Alexander’s appetite for wars
to inflate his own importance
Sarkozy boasted of being present
when the Berlin Wall, dividing East and West Germany
came down in 1989
Sarkozy had lied then
but now he can genuinely claim:
“I was there” when France went to war
against Libya and Ivory Coast
because I had myself declared the wars
and ordered the bombings
*(A nugget of Levy’s moral wisdom on the Israeli Defense forces: “I have never seen such a democratic army, which asks itself so many moral questions. There is something unusually vital about Israeli democracy.”
This wiseass philosopher has not bothered to find out Palestinians’ views about Israeli forces “moral” values.”
