Pakistani Generals’ Sunni adventure?

by B. R. GOWANI

Pakistani generals
always in power
whether as government
or behind the scene

in 1971, they divided Pakistan
because the Punjabis didn’t want to share power
with the majority, the Bengalis

have fought four wars with India

have supplied troops to Saudi Arabia and other countries
to protect the tyrannical rulers

have supported the Taliban

their history is full of horrific deeds

now they’ve initiated
the greatest adventure
undertaken since 1947
the year Pakistan was born

to defend the Saudi rulers’ grip on power
Pakistan has two army divisions on standby
a “frontline state” for Sunni Islam

Sunni Muslims there are about 88%
12% are Shia Muslims

Pakistan’s President Zardari is Shia
Saudis don’t like him
they prefer Sharif, a Sunni
Sunni fanatics in Pakistan want
Shias to be declared non-Muslims

If Pakistan gets involved in the Middle East
it would be Ireland of the 1960s to 1990s
except that it will be on a regional scale
where many countries would be involved
and many more people will get killed
and Shia/Sunni schism would widen greatly
