Sita and Akbar elope …

by B. R. GOWANI

two prisoners, Sita & Akbar, were transferred from Tripura to West Bengal

some Hindu zealots objected to captives Sita & Akbar being in the same cell

Vishwa Hindu Parishad official Anup Mondal warned:

“Sita cannot stay with the Mughal emperor Akbar.”

Mondal went to court

Vishwa Hindu Parishad said:

“Such an act amounts to blasphemy and is a direct assault on the religious belief of all Hindus.”

the court ordered a name change for both Sita and Akbar

thus Akbar and Sita were separated in the name of religion

Sita’s rage knew no bounds

she just couldn’t live without Akbar

he was not in any manner happy without his consort

Sita escaped from her cell but didn’t leave the prison facility

Sita wanted Akbar to join her too; he did

the authorities declared the fugitives a case of “love jihad

(Sita is a Hindu name and Akbar is a Muslim name

but they both were innocent of God, gods, goddesses, & G/godly business

neither Sita nor Akbar had ever heard of God, gods, and goddesses)

love jihad allegation further incensed Sita

she changed her name: Sita became Sharifa

while on the run, Sharifa and Akbar became parents of five children

after more than eight years, Akbar got sick – the diagnosis was cancer

Sharifa suggested that they should surrender to the authorities

Akbar was worried about Sharifa but she prevailed

the fanatic Hindus were over joyous

the government declared a public holiday

the Prime Minister went to one of the several temples his regime built

he lay prostrate on his stomach on the floor

and prayed with both hands folded

the legal proceedings began once the surrender-celebration was over

the first question asked was whether they produced any children

the answer in affirmative with number of children dampened the euphoria

the next question was about the whereabouts of their children

Akbar was in an übernationalist Manoj Kumar mood, he replied:

“Kashmir se leke Kanyakumari tak.”

Akbar was right: their children were scattered all over India

Sharifa and Akbar were careful not to put their children in one place

they both were sentenced to life imprisonment

the hunt began for their five children to prevent “love jihad”

till this writing, the authorities have failed to capture any of the children
