every year countries meet at a climate conference called by the UN
in 2022, they met between Nov. 6 to Nov. 20 in Cairo, Egypt
a couple of weeks prior to the UN COP27, AP report heading read:
“COP27’s Coke sponsorship leaves bad taste with green groups”
such a callous title – the writer of the report is Kelvin Chan
isn’t Chan a part of this planet?
wouldn’t he get affected by the global warming too?
so why green groups only feel the bad taste?
all who understands the severity of the climate crisis will have a bad taste
Cock Cola is the worst plastic polluter in the world – it pollutes 51 countries
Pissy Cola befouls 43 countries
7 of the 10 worst plastic-polluting companies belong to the US
the other three are European:
Nestle is Swiss, Unilever is British, and Perfetti Van Melle is Italian-Dutch
top ten polluters are all white countries
altogether 20 corporations sponsored COP27
(i.e., United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC))
according to Corporate Europe Observatory
18 of them have some or other connection with fossil fuel industry
Hill and Knowlton Strategies is the PR (public relations) firm for COP27
“Hill and Knowlton Strategies has been sharply criticized for what critics say is a long track record of spreading disinformation on behalf of its Big Oil clients.”
Hill and Knowlton Strategies works for the fossil fuel corporations
how much would this company be helpful in mitigating the climate crisis?
not at all
whatever progress COP conferences achieve will depend on corporations
i.e., when they are able to find solutions which doesn’t affect their profit
all sorts of crimes Hill and Knowlton Strategies has indulged into
the company used Nayirah to prepare US public for war against Iraq
COP27 saw 636 gas and oil lobbyists – 25% more than 2021 – in attendance
the combined number of African delegations was less than these lobbyists!
Bobby Banerjee has attended some COP meetings since 2011
in 2011, he was doing research on emissions in the mining industry
that year he attended COP17 in Durban, South Africa
he tried to enter the room where his research subject was being discussed
“But guess what? They turned me away, and who walks into the room to discuss, to develop global climate policy? CEOs of Rio Tinto, Shell, BP, followed by the ministers.” “This group of people — mining companies and politicians — are deciding on carbon emissions.”
“The real deals are handled indoors, you know, in closed rooms.”
the United Nations called climate conference to tackle the global warning
then it chose the culprits responsible for the climate crisis as sponsors
why? why? why? why? …
Georgia Elliott-Smith is an environmentalist activist
she has set up an online petition on this issue – she says
“To stop [the United Nations from] accepting corporate sponsorship for these events, which simply isn’t necessary, and stop enabling these major polluters to greenwash their brands, piggybacking on these really critical climate talks.”
the conferences are turning more and more commercial
it’s a facade where you take a couple of global warming alleviating steps
and ignore the exacerbating leaps of earth defiling corporations
