hate-mongering, warmongering, revengeful politicians are mini-sighted
many a time, they become victims of their own overzealous policies
shortsightedness prevents them from critically thinking over their plans
Mary Elizabeth Truss is one such politician; not a bright one either
as a foreign secretary, she made a gaffe regarding Russia’s regions
on 9/6/2022, she became Prime Minister of the United Kingdom
Truss’s USish nature stopped her from asking her critics to join her regime
USish policy: either you are with us or you are against us: no middle ground
Truss met US President Joe Biden and asked for two things:
a forceful policy to reduce world energy prices
her hatred for Russia led her to ask for absolute ban on Russian oil exports
Biden, not a very bright politician, but much smarter than Truss said later:
“[Truss is] really dumb.”
this says a lot about Truss because her two demands were contradictory
embargoing Russian oil would create shortage of oil and increase in price
politician Biden understood it very well and thus allows Europe to buy it
(doesn’t mean Biden has any less vengefulness in him
he hates Russia & China; his relations with S Arabia are not good too)
Chancellor of the Exchequer Kwasi Kwarteng presented a “mini budget”
Truss wanted “growth, growth, growth”
the budget had many tax cuts for the wealthy and big corporations
the same Reagan-isque & Thatcher-ite “trickle down” theory
you give tax breaks to the rich class and they’ll invest the extra money
which would result in jobs and income to the people
this is one of the biggest lie the capitalist governments puts forward
Trump reduced the corporate tax rate from Obama’s 35% to 28%
did the corporations invest this money back in the US economy?
most of the money was used by companies to buy back their own shares
(Biden reversed Trump’s tax rate to 28% but not Obama’s 35%)
coming back to Truss, where would the “growth” money come from?
by borrowing at high interest rate
the money borrowed at high interest rate would be distributed to wealthy
absolutely suicidal
it happens all the time …
but the Russia/Ukraine war is a bad time to indulge in such a foolish thing
the mini-budget backfired – the British pound fell to its lowest in 37 years
the British market felt the impact
so Truss pushed Kwarteng “under the bus” – that is, he became history
the waiting-in-line-premiers & Truss’s other party members got a chance
they pushed the Prime Minister under the bus
on Oct, 19, Liz Truss proclaimed in the House of Commons
“I am a fighter and not a quitter.”
“I have acted in the national interest to make sure that we have economic stability.”
the fighter fought without quitting for 1 day
announced resignation on Oct. 20, will continue till successor is chosen
with only 44 + days in office …
that’s the story of the shortest serving premier …
