2018 – military ejected Nawaz Sharif government

2018 – military selected Imran Khan government

2022 – military ejected Imran Khan government

2022 – military selected Shehbaz Sharif* government

Imran’s inexperience, ego, and his big mouth was evident

but the military didn’t give a damn about those things…

the military was bothered about two things:

  • Imran’s independent streak, and
  • his closeness to Russia

Pakistani military has always had

ups and down with the United States

but somehow, they always end up in bed together

their relationship goes back to the early 1950s

Pakistan, created in 1947 from India, saw its 1st military coup in 1958

the US loves military rule, as compared to civilian power

in 1965, Indonesia’s Sukarno was overthrown with the US support

about a million communists were murdered by General Suharto

on 9/11 1973, US supported General Pinochet

who removed the democratically elected president Allende

Dr. Salvadore Allende, committed suicide or was murdered

one could go on and on on with such examples of

the US supporting coups in countries and the killing of leaders

Pakistan’s elected premier Z. A. Bhutto was murdered by the military

military dictator Zia-ul-Haq committed this crime with a nod from the US

now Imran is out on the street, his supporters protesting loudly,

this is the one thing he’s good at inciting

Pakistan, already in miserable condition, is now engulfed in protests …

the only possible solution out of this is to call early elections

provided the political parties assure to abide by the result

or else, it will create a situation not unlike a civil war …

Pakistan can ill afford that right now …

as it will bring more chaos to this messy situation

*(Shehbaz, former governor of Punjab is Nawaz’s younger brother.)
