This is a very small attempt by me to put things into perspective. My community members operate the same kinds of convenience, corner and grocery stores that acted as the backdrop to the scene of George Floyd’s murder. We have succeeded as entrepreneurs but have failed to understand the cost of that success, both for ourselves and more significantly to our fellow Black Americans. (This is not to deny the difficulties, discrimination and violence we as visible immigrants have faced in the US and abroad, but that discussion is neither the intent nor focus of this piece.)
