The above Hindi/Urdu (sister languages) phrase can be seen in various places, including on T-shirts, stickers, banners, vehicle stickers, and more. This phrase is used to beware people with an evil eye and to hurl shame at the perpetrator. The literal meaning is “Oh ye with the evil eye, may your face be blackened.”

Other very common variation of the above phrase, “May God protect you from an evil eye” in the South Asian culture is commonly used by parents, especially mothers, to curse people who cast an evil eye on their children and relatives.
