Two days ago a young man — almost a boy — died in Delhi after being beaten severely. He was from Arunachal, a state in the north-east of India, and his assailants were from what in this context is called the “mainland”. This was the latest in a series of incidents of racial discrimination and violence against people from the north-east. They are visibly different, as the man in green and the two children in this photo of a meeting held to protest the continuing inhumanity.
