HUNGARY AROUND THE CLOCK
Hospital Association chairman Jen? Rácz told public television on Friday morning that he approves of medical staff accepting “gratitude money” from patients for their treatment.
The change in the Labour Code effective July 1 classifies the acceptance of gratitude money as a crime, “except if the employer orders otherwise”.
On another issue, Rácz warned that the health care sector will lose 5,000 doctors overnight if doctors older than 62 years are forced to retire.
“This regulation simply cannot be enforced,” Rácz told state television Sunday evening.
Of the 30,000 doctors in Hungary about 4,000 are over age 65 and many are over 70, Rácz said. “In addition, about 1,000 doctors leave Hungary every year,” he observed.
