Professor Leela Dube’s eyes

People tend to look away from this photo. They find it frightening and repellent. They see a dead old woman [Professor Leela Dube] whose eyes are about to be taken out. Why do I see — in it and behind it — bright butterflies and flowers and sunsets? It’s because I look through the refurbished eyes of those two individuals who will see again because of my dead old mother’s foresight and generosity.
