Barbara Gittings picketing Independence Hall July 4, 1966. “Barbara Gittings (July 31, 1932 – February 18, 2007) was a prominent American activist for gay equality. She organized the New York chapter of the Daughters of Bilitis (DOB) from 1958 to 1963, edited the national DOB magazine The Ladder from 1963 to 1966, and worked closely with Frank Kameny in the 1960s on the first picket lines that brought attention to the ban on employment of gay people by the largest employer in the US at that time: the United States government.” PHOTO/Kay Lahusen/Wikipedia
40 months it took for Obama to evolve
in the history of evolution
it’s equivalent to millions of years
perhaps the Lucy stage
nevertheless, it was great to hear him say
gays should have the marriage rights
the announcement was like a tremor
now we need a cataclysmic one
an amendment to the Constitution
as the saying goes:
came late, [but] came right
political calculations were there
but so were political risks
congrats
stones are being hurled
many more will be coming
from the Vatican
from the Catholic leaders
Protestant leaders
televangelists
these homophobics forget
many of their own indulge in homosexual acts
with underage and unwilling victims
Republicans threw as many stones as they can
but Obama has crossed the Rubicon
on a one-way ticket
he should change the words into a law
8 to 56 months are left now
any chance for a second or more such quakes?
or is it foolish to expect more?
