Why should the death of an 86-year old person with whom I had only a nodding acquaintance shock me when I hear about it, within minutes of the sad occurrence? The question would not have arisen if the person concerned was not Professor Sukumar Azhikkode (May 26, 1926–January 24, 2012) whom I rate as one of the finest minds India has produced.
