In 2006 September, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, in his address to the United Nations, criticized President George W. Bush’s imperialistic policies and called him a “devil”. “And the devil came here yesterday. Yesterday the devil came here. Right here.” [crosses himself] “And it smells of sulfur still today.
Every time the US president speaks, finding a bit of a truth in those word is like looking for a needle in a haystack. The chances of finding a needle in a haystack are there because the needle is there, but finding a bit of a truth in US president’s speech is nil–because there is no truth in it.
Same is true of President Barack Obama’s address to the United Nations general assembly. After invoking the UN Charter and declaring that the absence of war does not mean peace because other conditions are necessary too, he gave out the basic thrust of his speech:
“Even as we proclaim our love for peace and our hatred of war, there are still convulsions in our world that endanger us all.”
In simple English: The world is a dangerous place and so the war on terror will continue.
Citing Libya’s example, he proudly proclaimed: “Forty-two years of tyranny was ended in six months.” But when it came to Bahrain, he wants the opposition “to pursue a meaningful dialogue that brings peaceful change.”
Why a peaceful change in Bahrain but NATO violence in Libya?
Because “America is a close friend of Bahrain.” I should take back my words about truth. Obama is stating a fact that Bahrain’s rulers are US friends and that’s why the Saudi military’s quashing of people’s protest in Bahrain didn’t register on the US humanitarian radar.
Libya’s tyrannical rule of forty-two years was ended in six months. Then how come Israel’s oppression of Palestinians of sixty-three years which most of the world is trying for the last sixty-three years to bring to an end has been prevented from ending?
Obama didn’t say that the US has constantly vetoed any attempt by the UN to resolve the Palestinian issue. Instead he suggested the following:
“… A genuine peace can only be realized between the Israelis and the Palestinians themselves. One year later, despite extensive efforts by America and others, the parties have not bridged their differences.”
So why not a Libya type NATO action In Israel?
Because the United States’ “commitment to Israel’s security is unshakeable.”
That is one more truth. The 2012 election is looming on the US horizon and the Jewish Lobby’s sword is hanging on Obama’s head.
