Buddha relics reach museum

Sacred relics of the Buddha sent by the Pakistani government will go on show at the Colombo Museum.

Pakistan Prime Minister’s advisor on Minorities Affairs Dr. Paul Bhatti and a high level team of the Archaeology Department of Pakistan will bring the Relics to Sri Lanka.

The Relics are a valuable part of the archaeological heritage of Pakistan and depicts the rich Buddhist history of Pakistan. The exhibition in Colombo will display these high quality cultural assets from the Gandhara region of Pakistan and encompass four sacred artifacts and Relics.

The artifacts and Relics consist of the collection of the Peshawar and the Taxila Museum of Pakistan. These exhibits include the Sacred Tooth Relics of The Buddha, Kanishka Relic Casket from Shah-Ji-Ki-Dheri, stone reliquary in stupa shape and a golden casket.
