Nirma Rai, 30 and Shantikala Rai, 28 of Solukhumbu, Sarashwati Bika, 27 of Kaski and Munu Gurung, 24, of Manang successfully climbed the 7,525 meters high mountain. They have become the first Nepali women to ascend Annapurna IV.
“They reached the peak at 5:15 in the morning on Tuesday,” said Lucky Karki, coordinator of the Nepali Women Annapurna Expedition 2011 executive committee. The four women had left for the expedition on May 6.
An avalanche had separated the expeditors at the peak and it bruised two of the guides according to a press statement released by the committee. The expedition was led by Tendi Sherpa.
