March held against sexual violence on women and children

Yesterday, staffs from the Ministry of Health, local NGOs, and the public marched through Male’ City in a statement to fight the continuing cases of rapes and sexual and physical violence against women and children occurring across the nation.

The march began at 16:00 hrs near the Social Center. Some members of the parliament from both the ruling party Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and the opposition participated in the march.

According to the Ministry of Health, the march was designed to raise awareness among the public about the current escalation of rape, sexual assault and domestic violence. The participants called the authorities to take necessary and immediate actions against the perpetrators.

Many men and women including some celebrities marched around the island holding signs and with slogans against domestic violence and sexual assault on children, women and the old.
