European Left ExBoard meeting in Budapest

European Left

Building alternatives against the war machine that is destroying workers rights and popular sovereignty

Gathered in Budapest on Friday 15th and Saturday 16th, the Party of the European Left debated the exceptional crisis situation that world is experiencing today. The authority of the financial markets, the social attacks at a European and international level and the brutal and military answers in Libya and Ivory Coast among other countries were remembered in the opening speech of EL President, Pierre Laurent.

Precariousness and the situation of a profound crisis were equally highlighted by Attila Vajnai, President of Hungary workers Party 2006: “Unemployment increased dramatically in the country, the life conditions are extremely difficult for a very poor population, and the situation for parties left in Hungary is very sad as they are vanished from the Parliament whilst the right wing parties try now to change the constitution in a very anti democratic way, ending social and human benefits as the women’s right to abortion that was achieved years ago”.
