1. Stuxnet shows malware’s military power

Iran said its nascent nuclear power station at Bushehr (pictured) and, more crucially, its Natanz fuel-enrichment centre were infected with a worm called Stuxnet. Rather than deleting files or hosting spam servers, this worm seeks out the specialised electronics in a uranium centrifuge and sabotages them. It is thought to have put Iran’s nuclear plans back two years.
