Norway’s government has been accused of being “complicit in land confiscation, forced labour, killings, and upholding a repressive military regime in Burma” by way of its sovereign wealth fund’s US$4.7 billion stake in 15 firms in Burma’s energy sector, according to a rights organisation’s scathing report released on Wednesday.
The accusations came in a report by EarthRights International (ERI) titled: “Broken Ethics: The Norwegian Government’s Investments in Oil and Gas Companies Operating in Burma.”
