When it comes to cultural centers, the northern India city of Lucknow was one of the most chic.
After the collapse of the Mughal dynasty, poets, artists and intelligentsia flocked to the capital of Awadh, where they helped to create the newfound cosmopolitan society and artistic legacy that are the subject of a new exhibition opening today at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
