Maldives turns to Sri Lanka for dollars as IMF suspends deal

COLOMBO: Maldives has had discussions with Sri Lanka on the possibility of gaining access to a hard currency as money printing created dollar shortages and the International Monetary Fund suspended a deal with the archipelago.

President Mohamed Nasheed was quoted by Maldivian media as saying that the Maldives Monetary Authority, the tourist paradise’s central bank has, had discussions with Sri Lanka’s central bank on a 200 million dollar facility.
