Pope utters the “C” word

by B. R. GOWANI

A mosaic of some 60,000 condoms painted in different colours form a traditional Chinese ink painting of a scenery from the banks of the Li River in south China’s Guilin, is displayed at an exhibition of sex and ‘reproductive health technology’ in Beijing on August 8, 2009. The unique ‘condom painting’, 18 meters long and 3.5 meters wide, is the top attraction at the exhibition under way in the Chinese capital.” Getty/Day Life

the Catholic Church
has always opposed
any kind of covering
for the procreation tool, i.e.,
no legging for the third leg
fearing that it might feel suffocated
plus it would prevent
the act of procreation

or as Pope Benedict XVI said recently:
killing children “who might
one day have been geniuses

or perhaps, one would add:
could have been
King Leopold II, Stalin, Truman, Bush,…

change in attitude or ideology
is not an improbable thing
but coming from the Pope
even a slight one
is like a grand miracle

towards male sex-workers
the Pope displayed some generosity:
“when a male prostitute uses a condom,
where this can be a first step in the
… assumption of responsibility”

(the best way to understand
the importance of
Pope’s support for condoms
is to imagine for a moment:
the Taliban permitting dying women
to be treated by male doctors)

the Pope knows well, however,
in a man-to-man union
the liquid’s destiny
is not the life-creating receptacle
and no technology has yet been developed,
whereby one man can impregnate another man

it will prevent men
from contracting diseases
but then what about women?

it is the same
centuries old religious bigotry

Pope uttered the “C” word
but it is not comprehensive
