THIMPHU: Work has begun on creating an information superhighway linking Bhutan, Bangladesh, India, and Nepal.
Expected to be completed by June 2012, the information superhighway, using the Indian city of Siliguri, will directly connect the four countries, specifically linking rural communities in the region. The connection is part of the Asian development bank’s (ADB) south Asia sub-regional economic cooperation (SASEC) project.
The objective of the project is to not only allow social and cultural exchanges, but present opportunities for economic activity between rural communities at an affordable cost.
