WANNI: For the first time in several years the Deepavali festival was heralded with the sound of thousands of crackers instead of the blast of bombs or artillery fire in the Wanni district Friday.
Those who had been re-settled in Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu were seen visiting Hindu Kovils close to their homes to take part in religious observances.
